FLY & DRIVE: Lombardy

Arrival at Milan airport. Arrival and check-in at the hotel. In the afternoon, visit Piazza del Duomo with its famous Gothic cathedral, the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele, Sforza Castle, the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the Basilica of San Lorenzo Maggiore, and Sant'Ambrogio. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at the hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer by car to Monza, with a history that dates back to Roman times. Walk among important monuments: Monza’s Gothic Cathedral, where the 7th-century Iron Crown of the Lombards is preserved, Santa Maria di Strada Church, the 13th-century Arengario Town Hall, Villa Reale, the Church of Santa Maria delle Grazie, the Bridge of Lions (1842), and the 17th-century Palace of Justice. In the afternoon, transfer to Bergamo, beautifully situated at the foot of the Italian Alps. Take the funicular up to Bergamo Alta, one of Italy's most beautiful cities. Stroll through narrow, winding, cobblestone streets lined with colorful houses with shutters and balconies. Walk to Palazzo della Ragione, the New Palace, Piazza del Duomo with the Cathedral, St. Mary Major’s Romanesque Church, and the Colleoni Chapel. Evening return to your hotel. Dinner on your own and overnight stay at the hotel.

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Bellagio, known as "the Pearl of Lake Como" for its strategic position on the promontory between the two branches of the lake: Como and Lecco. Bellagio is also famous for its beautiful villas overlooking the landscape. The first is Villa Serbelloni from the 14th century, now a luxury hotel. Another villa worth visiting is the neoclassical Villa Melzi (1810) with its beautiful gardens, the first example of an English-style garden. In the afternoon, transfer to Como. Walk through the charming old town, where you can admire the Cathedral, the largest and most important building in the city. Visit the Romanesque Basilica of San Fedele and the beautiful 11th-century Basilica of San Abbondio. Return to the hotel in the evening. Dinner on your own and overnight stay.

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Soncino, a beautiful medieval town rich in history and listed among Italy's most beautiful towns. The visit includes the Rocca Sforzesca, the Gothic Pieve di Santa Maria Assunta Church with its frescoes, and Santa Maria delle Grazie Church, completely decorated with frescoes. Then, transfer to Brescia, known as the "Lioness of Italy." Visit the castle, one of Italy's most important military structures, with powerful fortifications dating from the 14th to the 16th century. Walk through the paths of the park towards the historic part of the city. The tour includes: Piazza della Loggia and Piazza della Vittoria with charming architecture, the Old Romanesque Cathedral built in the 11th century, the New Baroque Cathedral, the 13th-century Broletto Town Hall, and the Monastery of San Salvatore. Breakfast at the hotel. Drive to Stresa, a fashionable town by the lake, about 1.5 hours by car from Milan, surrounded by majestic snowy mountains. Continue to the lakeside village of Orta San Giulio. Stroll through its narrow, winding streets and visit the Congress Palace (1582), the 15th-century Casa Gianni, and the parish church of Santa Maria Assunta (1485). Return to the hotel in the evening. This train journey will take you along one of the world's most beautiful railway routes, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, through the Bernina Pass to the exclusive St. Moritz resort.
